If twists of fate happen for a reason Ben Townley would stay exceptionally positive heading into MXGP Round 9 at Talavera de la Reina in Spain this coming weekend.

11 years previous Townley made his name on Europe’s GP stage winning the 2005 MX1 Round 2 in Spain ahead of his now Team Suzuki World MXGP Manager Stefan Everts.

Townley clinched the 3-2 MX1 victory in his 2nd attempt in the premier class against long-held peers: Stefan Everts, Mickael Pichon, Joel Smets and fellow country-man Josh Coppins.

For Townley his comments defy time: ‘”I’m really happy…’ who took the Overall by 2 points. ‘”I didn’t expect to win this early in the Championship although I have been working really hard and to do this here today is pretty exciting for me”’.

‘”In MX1 the races are much more intense than in MX2, and racing with Mickael, Stefan, Joel, Steve and Josh is a great feeling as they were my heroes five years ago when I first came to Europe. Racing against them and beating them today is amazing”’.

The 2004 MX2 Champion made it clear his MX1 debut season meant battling up front setting his intentions for finishing 3rd Overall MX1 2005 behind Everts and Coppins.

All of which makes time and history that little bit sweeter when lining up this weekend in MXGP backed by 10x World MX Champion Stefan Everts as his Team Manager.
