In what has been a battle up front over the 4 Round Series on 4 different terrain Motocross circuits, it was Ferris leading the first 2 Rounds followed by Cooper pulling a blinder win in Round 3.

Heading into today’s Final Round at Taupo Motorcycle Digger McEwen Park, Cooper held a 3 point buffer over Ferris, amping up the pressure gauge come gate drop. The battle up front see-sawed from Ferris to Cooper, with NZ’s 2015 MX1 Champion retaining the Red Plate for the 3rd consecutive year.

NZ’s MX2 class held the crowd to the fence, as Hamish Harwood (CML KTM) made sound judgement calls to secure his Overall over Australia’s Jed Beaton and NZ’s Kayne Lamont (JCR Yamaha).

Harwood rode the perfect race strategy over the 4 Rounds, pushing when needed, playing safe to maintain point’s advantage finishing the National Series 17 points in front.

Up-coming 17 year old Ben Broad (KTM NZ) gained an impressive victory in 125cc class nailing a consistent 7 wins from 12 races over the 4 Rounds, taking the Overall 125cc Title ahead of Wyatt Chase and Blake Gillard.

2016 NZ MX Championships was one for the books this year, with top racing, tight fields and deserved Title wins.
