Catch-up Kayne Lamont UK: Hawkstone MX Park

NZ’s Kayne Lamont (Yamaha) placed 12^th Overall at UK’s MX Nationals Round at the infamous Hawkstone MX Park in the weekend.

Adjusting to racing UK’s top MX2 competition, racing new track circuits along with longer motos, Lamont is keen to rise to the challenges presented outside home comfort zone back in NZ.

With the necessary mental determination to gain and benefit from racing overseas, Kayne joins a number of Pro Motocross riders making the most of opportunities to race outside the familiar as seen with British rider Shaun Simpson nailing 4^th Overall at 2015 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Round at Unadilla last weekend.

Kayne speaks on the weekend’s racing:

‘I had a shocking outing at Hawkstone!! I had a good start in Race 1 but was pushed out on turn 2 which lost me about 10 positions. I struggled all moto to finish 14^th. Race 2 I had a horrible start sliding side-ways as it was a concrete start. Rode around to finish yet again 14^th. I struggled all day with attacking the track and ended up 12^th Overall’.

SC: Track layout at Hawkstone seems natural terrain- tell us what are you enjoying competing in the UK?

Kayne: ‘Yes it has a big hill and a fair few ups and downs. I’m enjoying how everyone over here has a camper and all stay at the track so you are able to talk to a lot of people the night before racing’.

‘Also racing new tracks is a highlight for me. That’s what I enjoy about racing anywhere out of New Zealand as you get to see how they build/set-out their tracks’.

SC: What challenges have there been since arriving in the UK and what has gone particularly well for you so far?

Kayne: Pretty much a full lifestyle change as I live on a farm at home and here I’m living in a city, so that’s a challenge for me! But it does have its advantages as I don’t have to travel as far for the gym and massages etc’.

SC: With MXoN 6 weeks out- what will be your main priority in the next few weeks?

Kayne: ‘I have 2 weeks off racing so I’m going to try get as many long motos in as a build-up for the length of races at MXoN’.
