MXLink Live speaks with Nancy Van de Ven and Francesca Nocera on racing Women Motocross World Championship, the challenges encountered in their careers and how they maintain a positive mind-set to overcome whichever obstacles come their way.
It was way back when Nancy first started racing WMX, that the 2 women became friends, a remarkable friendship which has shared all experiences of success on the track, heartbreak on and off the track and being there for each other in times of celebration and dispair.
What stands out as most inspiring is the connection the 2 women have formed- Nancy supporting Francesca through most difficult times when battling cancer illness, and Francesca giving Nancy reminders- do what you do best on the track- just like you do when training. A rare gift between 2 racing competitors in WMX.
For sure, Nancy holds determination of character to achieve long-cherished goals of winning FIM Women MX World Championship Title. So many close finishes, so close in points over the past years, and such great start to 2020 WMX season, Nancy will yet prove her goals are successful.
Currently standing 4th in WMX points table, Nancy held her own in both Opening WMX Rounds at Matterley Basin and Valkenswaard with 3rd place podium at Round 2. #85 now looks forward to WMX Rounds for remainder of season.
Francesca is all inspiring to athletes around the world. To win Italian Women Motocross Championship 5x, including post cancer diagnosis is truly remarkable feat, given the emotional toll the illness would have on a person’s health along with the physical demands WMX racing places on riders.
Holding most respected and honourable position within Fiamme Oro, Italy’s National Sports Group, Francesca pays homage to the sacrifices her family made allowing #116 to race Motocross at National and World Championship level.
